A real-time XR collaboration environment developed as part of Microsoft’s Windows on Quest initiative, bringing Microsoft 365 workflows into immersive spatial experiences on Meta Quest. The project explored how traditional productivity workflows could coexist with spatial computing experiences in a real-time 3D environment.
Contributions
Environment & Asset Development
- Collaborated on environment concept development and visual direction
- Led and mentored a team of three artists throughout environment production, helping balance visual quality, technical constraints, and delivery requirements
- Retopologized and UV-mapped environment assets in Blender, converting high-poly source geometry into performant real-time content suitable for XR deployment
- Rebuilt and optimized complex assets, including large rock formations, through topology redesign, normal map baking, remeshing, poly reduction, and geometry restructuring
Lighting & Look Development
- Established the lighting direction and look development in collaboration with the team, defining the visual quality bar for the environment
- Balanced visual quality against the performance constraints of XR hardware throughout development
Rendering & Optimization
- Developed and optimized custom shaders, including vegetation workflows designed to support batching and reduce draw-call overhead
- Profiled GPU and CPU performance, identifying bottlenecks across geometry, materials, shaders, batching, and memory usage
- Collaborated closely with engineers to improve rendering efficiency while preserving visual fidelity
- Reduced environment asset bundle size and maintained stable frame rates on Meta Quest hardware throughout development
